CartSync Pro documentation / Insights
Insights and attribution
What each number in CartSync Pro's Insights means, how an order is credited to a restored cart (the 30-day rule), what's waiting in saved carts, staff results, free gifts and draft orders, and what the numbers don't tell you.
CartSync Pro's home page shows Insights: sales from carts it put back on another device, what's waiting in customers' saved carts, and what your team's carts, free gifts and draft orders bring in. This page explains where each number comes from, so you know what it does and doesn't measure.
Open Insights
Open CartSync Pro from Apps in your Shopify admin. Insights is on the home page, under the cart sync status.
Use the Period menu to choose Last 7 days, Last 30 days (the default) or Last 90 days.
Until there's something to report, the home page shows Insights show up here once carts start moving instead, with three things that fill it:
- Cart sync is turned on in your live theme. See Getting started.
- A signed-in customer picks up their cart on another device.
- Your team builds or edits a customer's cart in Cart Helper.
Each card only shows when it has something in it. If nothing happened in the period you picked, the page says Nothing happened in the last 30 days. Try a longer period.
When a cart counts as restored
Most numbers start from a restore: a page load where CartSync Pro put saved items into the cart in the customer's browser. That happens when:
- The customer opens your store on another device, signed in, and their cart there is missing items or quantities from the saved cart.
- The customer signs in with a guest cart, and the saved items are added to it. This can be on the same device. See Signing in with a guest cart.
- Your team added products in Cart Helper, and the customer's next visit puts them in the cart.
Only items that were actually added count, at the quantity added. An item that's out of stock by then isn't counted. Free gifts are counted separately, in Free gifts and draft orders.
When the browser cart already matches the saved cart, nothing is restored and nothing is counted.
How an order is credited
When a signed-in customer places an order, CartSync Pro checks which of its items were restored to that customer in the 30 days before the order.
- Only those lines count. An order with a restored sweater and a new pair of socks counts the sweater only. An order with nothing restored isn't counted at all.
- Up to the quantity restored. If 1 was restored and the customer bought 3, 1 counts.
- After discounts. A line counts at its price in the order minus the discounts applied to it. Shipping and taxes aren't included.
- Free gift lines aren't counted.
- The order is counted on the day it was placed, in your store's time zone.
Refunds, cancellations and order edits made after the order was placed don't change the numbers.
Cross-device carts
| What it shows | |
|---|---|
| Recovered revenue | The credited value of orders placed in the period (see How an order is credited) |
| Customers typically bought … after their cart was restored | The median time between the first restore of a credited item and the order |
| Carts restored on another device | Restores in the period, and how many customers they were for. Despite the label, this includes restores at sign-in on the same device and staff-built carts reaching the customer |
| Orders placed from them | Orders in the period with at least one credited line |
| % of those customers bought | Of the customers who had a restore in the period, the share who placed a credited order in the same period |
The chart shows recovered revenue per day, or per week for Last 90 days. Hover over a column, or focus the chart and use the arrow keys, to read each day's revenue and order count.
Waiting in saved carts
The value of what's sitting in customers' saved carts right now.
- One cart per customer: their latest saved version, if it has any products in it. Carts with only a free gift aren't counted.
- At today's prices. Product prices are looked up in Shopify when you open the page. A product you've since deleted counts at zero.
- Not limited to the period. It's always every open saved cart, whatever Period says.
- By age: Saved 0–7 days ago, 8–30 days ago and 30+ days ago, from the last time the cart changed.
- Largest carts: the five customers with the most valuable carts. Click a name to open that customer in Cart Helper.
A customer's saved cart is emptied when they place an order, so it drops out of this card. If they still have items in their cart on another device and open your store there, those items can be saved again, and the cart comes back. See After an order.
Use it as a follow-up list. A customer with a large cart that's been waiting for weeks may be worth an email from your team, or a free gift from Cart Helper.
Carts built by your team
| What it shows | |
|---|---|
| Revenue from items staff added in Cart Helper | The part of Recovered revenue from lines your team added in Cart Helper, then restored to the customer's cart on their next visit |
| Each staff member | Their name, how many times they saved a cart in Cart Helper in the period, how many credited orders, and revenue |
How credit is shared between staff:
- Carts counts every save in Cart Helper: Save Cart to, Save Changes and Restore this version. Saving the same customer's cart twice counts twice. Clear Cart isn't counted.
- Orders and revenue go to the staff member who last saved that customer's cart in Cart Helper before the order, within the 30 days before the period.
- A staff-added item only counts once it's been restored to the customer's cart. A cart turned straight into a draft order and paid, without the customer visiting your store, shows under Draft orders, not here.
The list shows the top five, by revenue and then by carts.
Free gifts and draft orders
For gifts given and drafts created in the period:
| What it shows | |
|---|---|
| Gifts given | Free gifts given in Cart Helper |
| Redeemed | Gifts that were in an order, and their cost: the product's price when the gift was given, times the quantity |
| Still open | Gifts not yet ordered, whether or not they've reached the customer's cart |
| Declined | Gifts the customer removed from their cart |
| Draft orders created | Drafts created from Cart Helper |
| Invoiced | Of those, drafts whose invoice was sent |
| Paid | Drafts that became orders, and their total |
Gifts your team took back aren't shown separately. The draft statuses are refreshed from Shopify when you open the page, so a draft paid or deleted in Shopify shows up there. See Free gifts and draft orders.
Where the numbers come from
Insights are worked out from CartSync Pro's own records, kept in its database on F12 Labs' servers: the history of each saved cart, every restore (customer ID, variant IDs and quantities), and, for credited orders, the order number, the credited lines and their value. Product names, prices and customer names are looked up in Shopify when you open the page.
The records start from when you installed CartSync Pro. They're deleted 48 hours after you uninstall, or for one customer when you erase their data in Shopify. See What's stored.
Troubleshooting
Insights are empty but the app embed is on. Nothing is counted until a signed-in customer's cart is restored or your team uses Cart Helper. Run the two-device check in Getting started.
An order I expected isn't counted. It's only counted if the customer was signed in, at least one of its products was restored to them in the 30 days before, and the product wasn't a free gift. An order placed as a guest, or for a product they added themselves on the same device, doesn't count.
Recovered revenue is lower than the order total. Only restored lines count, after discounts, without shipping and taxes.
Saved carts value looks high. It's at today's prices, for every customer with items in their saved cart, however old. Look at 30+ days ago: some of those carts may never be bought.
A staff member shows as Unknown staff. CartSync Pro didn't get their name when they saved. Their results still count.
