Limits and troubleshooting

Every limit in Aedify (products, collections, posts, tabs, accordion items, template size, image uploads, blogs) and fixes for common problems: layouts that look unstyled, empty product grids, content shown twice, anchor links that don't scroll, hidden elements, saving errors and images that won't upload.

This page lists every limit Aedify has, then the problems merchants run into most and how to fix them. If something here doesn't solve it, the page for that element usually has its own troubleshooting section.

Aedify has no limit on the number of pages, blog posts, descriptions or templates you build.

The layout looks unstyled on my store

Columns stack one under another, banner text sits under the image, or every tab panel shows at once.

  1. Turn on the Aedify styles app embed: Aedify's home page → Storefront setup → Turn on, then Save in the theme editor. See Storefront setup.
  2. If you recently switched themes, run through Storefront setup again. Shopify doesn't carry app embeds over to a new theme.
  3. Reload the page on your store without the cache (Shift+reload).

Products, collections or blog posts show nothing

Live elements are filled in by the Aedify content block. Without it on the template the page uses, they're empty.

  • Add the block to the template: Storefront setup. For product and collection descriptions, use the link in the builder's warning.
  • If the page uses an alternate template (picked under Theme template in Shopify), add the block to that template too. The checklist says Done once any page template has it. See Alternate templates.
  • Check that the products are active and on the Online Store channel, the collections are on the Online Store channel, and the blog has visible posts.
  • Products matched by Condition are found when you save. Save the page again after you tag or add products.

The content shows twice

Your theme prints its own copy of the page text, and the Aedify content block hides it. If you see it twice:

  • Make sure Aedify styles is on. Hiding the copy is done by Aedify's styles.
  • If it's still there, your browser may be old: hiding uses a CSS feature (:has()) supported by current browsers. Removing your theme's own Content block from the template fixes it for every browser; see Remove your theme's Content block.

A link to #section-name doesn't jump to the element with that Anchor ID.

  • Remove your theme's own Content block from the template, as above. The hidden copy has the same anchor IDs, and the browser jumps to the hidden one.
  • Check the link and the Anchor ID match exactly: a link to #faq jumps to the element whose Anchor ID is faq. Each Anchor ID must be used once on the page; Duplicate copies it. See Style and Advanced settings.

A hidden element shows on my store

Hide on storefront is done with Aedify's styles, so a hidden element shows when the styles aren't loaded: with the Aedify styles embed off, in other sales channels that show the content, or after you uninstall. Delete elements you'll never show again instead of hiding them.

Blog posts show my myshopify.com address as the author

The post was created with Author left empty. Change the author in Shopify's blog post editor (Content → Blog posts). See Create a blog post.

The blog list shows odd text for an Aedify post

Without an Excerpt, your theme shows the start of the post's content on the blog's list page, which may be text from a banner or a tab title. Add an excerpt in Shopify's blog post editor.

Images won't upload

It looks different in the builder

  • Buttons look dark. The builder doesn't have your theme's styles. Buttons with the Theme button look use your theme's colours on the storefront.
  • Fonts aren't my theme's. The builder and Preview use a neutral font. Your storefront uses your theme's fonts.
  • Products in a placed template show a placeholder. Preview them in the template editor, or on your store.
  • Carousels don't scroll on their own. Carousels have no arrows or autoplay; shoppers swipe or scroll them.
  • A fixed background scrolls on iPhone and iPad. Fixed background attachment doesn't work there; the image scrolls with the page. See Rows and columns.

Still stuck

Check the page for the element you're using: each one has its own settings and troubleshooting. If you're planning to remove Aedify, read Uninstalling Aedify first.
